Style vs. Substance



I'm a big fan of Silent Hill 4: The Room and I am very proud to say that, but it does prove the statement style over substance. Its intense surrealist art style broke even further away from what the original Silent Hill games have established, but the gameplay was more streamlined which made the game feel just like any other survival horror game. Sure, gameplay is an important aspect of video games, but if the style and execution are not fresh and original, we'll just be stuck with generic gray and browns. Art is hard, yes, but we can at least try.
